In September 2015 we commemorated 50 years of Neuroscience at IU, reflecting on the future of the discipline.
Four of the program’s most successful alumni spoke at the event, as well as two renowned neuroscience visionaries with strong ties to the program.
The plenary speaker, Giorgio A. Ascoli from George Mason University and Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study, presented "In search of a periodic table of the neurons."

IU was really at the forefront when it established a unit named 'neuroscience.' At the time even the word itself was uncommon. Yet 50 years later, there is hardly a major university or research institution that does not have a neuroscience unit.
